Description
Black Wheels highlights the contributions and achievements of African-Americans in motor sports from the 1920s to the present. Most race fans are unaware that among those moonshine runners driving like maniacs, outrunning the authorities transporting their "product" to the public were many African Americans, some of whom went on to form their own racing organization in 1924, the "Gold And Glory" circuit. Drivers profiled include Charlie Wiggins, Wendell Scott, Sr., Joie Ray, Randy Bethea, Willy T. Ribbs, and Bill Lester, along with many crewmembers, team owners, and NASCAR officials. The history of African-American competitors in American motor sports is proudly presented, while some current and future participants are introduced.
